Oh happy Wednesday! I'm thankful to not be doing much today and without giving out any details, I'll say yesterday was just terrible. It was a bad mess yesterday that left my friends and I feeling like second-class citizens. It only made perfect sense to walk over to The Cheesecake Factory (The C.F.) in between classes (confession, I've never been there!) and we sat there for two solid hours, venting about all the mess going wrong with the (I'm going to call it "Circus") Circus right now. Our food was amazing and so was Deanna, our server. Thank you, Deanna!!
I tried the Impossible Burger for the first time. It is a 100% plant-based burger with no meat in it. I shared some with my friends and they liked it! One said, "OMG I could totally eat that every day!" I sent the picture of the burger to my dad and he said, "Are you sure that's not meat?" Ha! Wait 'til you see the actual picture of the burger I ate! It was amazing and I totally recommend everyone to try it. No animals were used to make that burger! I'm a huge fan of animal advocacy, so I was so excited about the plant burger!
Also while at The C.F. , I couldn't leave without a slice of cheesecake, right? That was my original plan anyway- to order cheesecake and that was it. When I saw the Impossible Burger on the menu, I just had to try it because it has gone viral on social media and it was something I've been looking forward to eating it!
I am really thankful that even though the first day of summer semester was crappy, I have friends that are in the same boat with me and we are able to lean on each other and vent about this. They were the highlight of my day yesterday. My day would have been so much worse if I had not spent time around good people.
I know, I know- you want to see my food, right?
I swear that burger is 100% plants and no animal products were involved! Oh my word, it was amazing and I really was worried I ate beef after I bit into it. I still wasn't convinced it wasn't beef, so I researched the Impossible Burger on google and found out it is REALLY all plants. I'm still flabbergasted by this burger! How did they make it look and taste like beef?! You have got to visit The C.F. and ask for this burger. My dad was even fooled by the look of it. SERIOUSLY, guys. My non-vegan friends loved it when they sampled a piece of my burger. That should tell you something!
Our second class of the day started after we left The C.F. and walked back to class. We have Mental Health and Gerontology on the same day. Today, I got notification that I finally got a seat in the Global Health class since I've been trying to reduce my workload for the final semester. If I take more classes now, I'll have fewer classes in my final semester prior to graduating. Win-Win, right?
After Gerontology lecture ended, one of my classmate friends and I went for an adventure in the mall nearby. It was such a good walk and much-needed. Thanks, Adi!
We visited Bath & Body Works and smelled everything. There's one item we both hated: Praline Pecan.
I originally had no plans to buy anything, but I left with something. Blame Adi, haha!
Note: I did not buy any of those candles during my store visit. I took pictures of those candles in-store to make note of them. They smell amazing! Adi and I both agreed they smell great. We both absolutely loved the Fresh Cut Lilacs scent and we both ended up buying Wallflower refills in the scents: Fresh Cut Lilacs and Mineral Springs.
Here's why I did not buy any candles last night and I certainly told Adi not to buy any:
All 3 wick candles are 50% off on the weekends every weekend!!!!! I buy them online on the weekends only. You can go in-store and get them 50% off during the weekend as well, so save your money and get them on the weekends! Because I've done that, I've tried a handful of 3 wick candles in my house. I will say they actually work and they do freshen up my house when burning for more than an hour at a time. My husband walks into the house and he's happy about the scent! I'll give you a run-down on my scent favs:
After our shopping-run there, we headed over to Lush. Another confession: I've never shopped there either because of the prices! I did get to sample some items. I brought home two free samples from there last night: Rosy Cheeks face mask and Dream Cream lotion.
I used the face mask last night while in a hot bath when I got home since yesterday was so stressful. That mask felt amazing. It has chamomile in it, so I'm guessing that calmed my skin down. The Dream Cream lotion is soft and really effective! My hands never stay soft after applying lotion, but the Dream Cream was an exception. This lotion did not dry out on my hands. If you have been looking everywhere for a lotion that won't dry out, Dream Cream might be what you're looking for. I have sensitive skin and psoriasis, so this lotion is ideal for that! The staff were amazing and they did not try to pressure us to buy anything. They were happy to give us guidance on which products were best suited for our skin types and they let us sample the items without us asking! Who even does that?! Lush wants you to try their products out. They clearly have nothing to hide and I admire that about them.
Sorry, guys- I did not buy any bath bombs. I looked at them, but I cannot justify spending that kind of money on bath bombs! :( They're cool to look at, but the scent was not strong to me except for the green and the yellow bath bombs on your far left of the above picture. But still, $7-$9 for one? I'm sorry, I just can't. Raincheck for another day?!
That's all for now! I got last minute notice that I got placed into the Global Health class literally less than 3 hours before the class starts today and I still have to ship an item I sold on eBay, work on finances, and have lunch before I had to class. I don't even have the Global Health textbook yet, but that's currently being worked on. Hey, last minute changes are better than no changes at all, right? Special shoutout to Jim in the Registrars' office for making my schedule changes possible! Also another shoutout to my dear friend Mikko for always being there, being frank with me, and for giving me the best advice in the world. Always find friends that will always keep it 100% real with you. Those are the ones you want in your life! Happy wednesday!
The past weekend was so unproductive. I stayed indoors and rested a lot after realizing I slept wrong on thursday night and really started feeling the pain on friday. By Saturday, it was intolerable so I resorted to 800mg ibuprofen to relax my neck muscles from the spasms. I had a bad case of the ole 'crick in the neck' and it caused annoying headaches to stick around that Excedrine couldn't beat. The ibuprofen knocked me out, so I slept a ton this weekend. On Sunday, I made a mini grocery run and refilled my 5 gallon water bottle for the Primo Water dispenser here at home. Before I could even remind my husband how to be careful with placing the bottle upside down on top of the dispenser, he had already done it anyway and there was a splash of water all around the machine! It was not bad at all. I have to give him credit though- he helped me with the bottle instead of me having to carry it and install it. Thanks, honey!
I had very light meals on Sunday and also worked on getting a head start on my Summer semester studies. I cannot believe Summer Semester is already here. Where the heck did the past two weeks ago? I am not mentally ready for Summer Semester! I am so exhausted!
For this semester, I'm studying Mental health, Gerontology, and a Healthcare Literature class. I'm genuinely trying to keep an open mind with the Healthcare Literature class; however, I feel like it's already reminding me of my community college english literature composition classes all over again. Remember Ethos, Pathos, Logos and the Thesis essays? Yeah, all of that is in this Healthcare Literature class. What the heck is going on and why am I back to this class in my nursing program? I thought it was a 6 week class, but someone thought it was a smart idea to make it an 8 week class. I'm not thrilled about it at all because there's tons of writing when what I really should be doing is focusing on absorbing all the knowledge from my Mental Health and Gerontology classes.
Monday (this morning), I had to go follow-up with my ophthalmologist to confirm the trial pair of contacts fit me perfectly just so I can get a written prescription for them so I can order them online and save tons of money. I get so sleepy when I shop around online for the best deals. That's the part I'm dreading!
I'll be swamped all day with studying. I have 7 hours worth of campus lecture this week and need to read up on everything before class starts. In case you're wondering by now, no I do not have a social life! The key to success is putting everything else aside so you can ensure you'll survive nursing school!
Hopefully you had a great weekend!
Let me know in the comments below what you would like the next blog to be about!
Friday was amazing. I got invited to attend a beautiful pinning ceremony to see some amazing men and women get pinned. Watching other people achieve success really makes me so happy and very proud of them! It's only fair if I share the details in this post and celebrate another milestone in their lives. Nancy, Sharese, and Rayhana- you all looked amazing and I'm so excited for what's yet to come for you! The medical field is about to become even better with you all in it now! Wishing you the best of luck on your NCLEX exam. I know you can do it!!
Also, my friend Mikko will be getting pinned this fall so I will be watching his ceremony! Such an exciting and eventful year. Next spring, I'll get pinned. Talk about 3 pinning ceremonies in 12 months! Ha! Without further adieu, let's see the pictures! Oh, one more thing- we got a new male nurse!!! (See pics below!)

I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession, and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping, and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. With loyalty will I endeavour to aid the physician in his work, and as a 'missioner of health' I will dedicate myself to devoted service to human welfare.

Happy 1st of May! This is my birth month, so things are happening! Last night I went on a grocery run and picked up crawfish, corn ears, little red potatoes. You know where I'm going with this! I had myself a good crawfish dinner last night! Even better, the crawfish that I bought is from Louisiana and the company there spiced it up and cooked it. UGH. It was spot on! I found 3 lbs bags of the crawfish at Walmart for $11. I bought 2 bags!
For more info on the Crawfish I cooked with, visit www.ricelandcrawfish.com/crawfish-products.html . Today's blog post is not sponsored and it is not an ad! I share good information as I come across it! I highly recommend you to try the Spicy Hot Boiled Crawfish if you can tolerate spicy food! It is so, so, so good and it takes me right back to my good memories from when I was in New Orleans and Slidell, Louisiana.
I also couldn't walk out of Walmart without picking up some gelatin-free cheesecake! I picked up a 12 slice platter. It is always a favorite when I get it. I haven't had it in a year or more! I also bought Breyer's Reeses Ice-cream and that was a regret: it was way too sweet. One teaspoon full was like eating a sugar casserole. Yikes!
Yesterday, I started the process of de-cluttering my house. I try to make this a habit after every semester ends to go through my house and find things to toss out or donate. I have books finally posted for sale on eBay and I've tossed a ton of note papers into my recycle bin. It's insane! I've held on to my Anatomy and Physiology notes from 3 years ago and finally tossed those into the recycle bin yesterday. My spiral notebooks followed. I adjusted one of the shelves in my desk shelving unit and now my books can stand up straight!
I still have plans to go out and get some bike riding done, time permitting. I really want to get this house organized and get rid of stuff before I consider going outside just yet. Doing these things help give me a fresh new start to a new semester and helps clear my head.
During this brief break time from Spring Semester, I've been sleeping a lot. I sleep in until 11am-12pm most days! I am trying my hardest to sleep in daily just to give my brain a rest from the rough semester it just endured. Intense rest like this helps get me geared up for the upcoming semester. Works every time! Doing this also greatly reduces burn-out for me.
I got invited to go to a formal event this week, so hopefully I'll be able to take pictures to post on here. It's going to be exciting!
Have a happy Tuesday!
